Too Much Life ! by Irfan Afzal - Pakistan
The second-last aisle seat was still unoccupied, but none of the eight men standing outside went for it. He hesitated for a moment, looked at the Monday morning solemn faces, smiled an embarrassed, questioning smile and reluctantly boarded the bus. Shambling through the aisle, he reached the seat he had spotted, only to find a transgender sitting next to it. He turned and was about to rush to the door when a voice from behind said: “It’s ok, uncle … sit down.”
“Why don’t you sit by her …I mean him” he retorted without looking back, a twitch extending from the right corner of his mouth to the eye. Just then the transgender leapt and dragged him by the arm.
“Haye Allah uncle, why such refrain?” the transgender said, smooching a kiss in the air. Some passengers laughed, some looked the other way.
“Shut your mouth up, and don’t touch me again. I am Syed Kazmi. Syed you know. I am a rrr…”
