When Spring Remembered Me! by Hamda Rafaaqat - Pakistan

I did not call it—

and yet spring came,

brushing past the wilted corners of my waiting.

It did not ask permission—

only arrived,

soft-footed, with petals in its breath.

 

The flowers were already awake,

swaying to a hymn I had never learned.

The water hummed verses

from a script not written by my hands.

Unfamiliar tones,

so distant—

yet they reached me,

sang through the ache I had forgotten to name.

 

Hope was no longer a concept.

It was a scent in the wind,

a color I could not paint,

a light pooling in cupped hands.

Love, too, had changed—

less flame, more warmth.

Less possession, more presence...

It’s not the truth we crave, but what it brings, 

A hope that fades like echoes in a stream...

Why do you wait for magic's gentle hue, 

Crafted in woman's womb, a spark so true? 

At first,

She feels discomfort in her stride, 

A stranger to herself, emotions collide. 

Confused,

She can't discern joy from sorrow, 

As adolescence dawns, a new tomorrow.

In skies of colors, where clouds gently weep,

Resembles the womb, where life's secrets keep.

Like rain cascading in crimson's embrace,

The uterus whispers of life's tender grace.

Was not it a miracle to you?...
